Born in Paris, he recived his first artistic education within his familty from his father Maurice Mallet, an art expert. In the period between the end of his studies and the beginning of the war, Mallet Stevens opted for a creer as interior designer while at the same time working as an architect showing a keen interest in that modern concept which was then emerging in Paris as well as in the rest of Europe.
On of his leading thoroughts was: "Furniture, applied arts have no reason to change into something else".
